B had yesterday off, which happens to be his only entire day off (that is not a holiday of some sort) for the entire time I am off. So it was our one and only chance to spend some time together, by ourselves, for the rest of the year. It's unusual that we go and do things alone together. We always seem to be with friends or family, which is perfectly nice, but sometimes it's nice to just be able to be ourselves and be geeks about food and art and not have to worry about making sure everybody is having a good time and is okay.
So we went to lunch at The Ravenous Pig, which we had never tried, and therein I ate the last salad I may ever need. It had roasted cauliflower, fingerling potatoes (which are just SO CUTE) and tiny roasted green beans on wilted radicchio with a mustard vinaigrette. And then they put steak on top. Seriously. YUM.
B had a big 'ol blody burger with HOMEMADE PICKLES on top. Are you kidding me? Who takes the time to make pickles anymore? The Ravenous Pig, that's who! And then we had their 'Pig Tail' desert, which is deep fried pastry with in house chocolate sauce.
It was majorly good. Major. We must return to eat everything they make.
So then we went to our quarterly viewing of the exhibits at the Cornell at Rollins. They had a great Josef Albers exhibit, which made me think of color theory class in college, and then I got an overwhelming urge to color-match some different parts of something. (I guess I'm missing work a little...) CFAM always has interesting shows, and always a good mix of shows. We need to become members.
And then B took me to the Drunken Monkey Coffee Bar. Which was pretty laid back and awesome, and makes a decent cup of coffee. It is also where they have sci-fi tv viewings (Lost, Heroes, et al), which I can see would be a good time. Comfy sofas, and whatever they were making for the dinner special smelled delish. It just had a good vibe. I was wishing I had brought my computer. I might have stayed for the dinner.
And it's right next door to Beefy King. Next time...
I have to say, it was REALLY nice to visit some independent places. We get so lazy about just going somewhere 'cause its convienent, and not necessarily because its great. Or even good, really. We need to make our limited dollaz count these days. And support the locals.

CALLING FOR DONATIONS
So if anyone would like to pay to clone me, then front the costs to send my clone to Sidewalk Arts and me to Coachella I would be most grateful.
The line-up makes me weep.

LIGHT AS A FEATHER
First off, I just want to thank everyone for the encouragement and the positive re-enforcement over my last post. This whole job search experience has just been way more emotional than I thought it would be. A big, giant, huge THANK YOU to you all.
On to different things, guess who has re-joined the 21st century! My sister, the long forgotten Rachel. Check our her blog at: watchmewin.blogspot.com. I just got it all pimped out for her. Since her screenname is "The Winner" you can see who got all the confidence in our family...
And above you'll see my latest embroidery, titled "Light as a Feather". I really love it. You can also see that my current obsession with that teal-y aqua color is still going strong. I drew the pattern from a vector image that I had made to use on one of our websites, but it just wasn't working for that, so I took it for this.
It will not, however, be in the store for a couple of weeks, as I received the Small Works pieces back from SCAD on Saturday. I'm going to work them back into the store by adding a new piece every other day, so that way I'll keep my exposure high. When you add something new, it pops you to the top of the category, so we're going to try that tactic and try to sell some more.
That's it my little birdies! I'm off to make some onion soup for dinner.

EMPTY HOUSE
So the boys left a few hours ago, and B is at work again. All is quiet here.
Yep, all is quiet. And fairly clean. And quiet. Did I mention it was really quiet here?
I had thought that by the end of the last 2 weeks, all I would want to do was lock myself alone in our apartment doing nothing but gorging myself on microwave popcorn and dark chocolate while reading fashion magazines and catching up on my backlog of "continuing education" shows from HGTV that have accrued whilst everybody was here. And walk around with no pants on. Pants are soooo overrated.
But really, I just wish that nobody had to go home.
The house is really quiet now.

HOLY CRAP.
Oh my god. I actually sold something. Big up to Steph for being the first to enable my fabric and periodical addictions! Way to go!
Oh, and I added the last of the first series to the etsy site. It took forever and I'm glad it's done, but it's the coolest one yet. Also, keep a look out for new pieces, such as 'Mud-flap Girl', 'American Pie', and 'Curves Ahead'.
Capitalism is fun!

BUT I DON'T WANNA GO BACK TO THE REAL WORLD...
OMIGOD we had such a good time. SUCH. A. GOOD. TIME.
It was weird, though. After not having seen each other face to face for almost 5 years, it was incredibly odd to find out that we pretty much dress the same, listen to the same music, read the same books, like the same movies, enjoy the same obscure hand lotion and soap, and have the same taste in men. Except for the fact that in the looks department I'm Snow White and she's Rose Red. The people at the nail salon didn't believe we were sisters.
Weird, I tell ya. Weird.
So, she flew home yesterday (and today - future reference: don't fly into Denver in the springtime; apparently they occasionally have little problems like 30" (!) of snow and tennis ball sized hail) and now life has to get back to normal. Which I'm sure it will. Eventually.
I really glad she came. See 'ya next time Cocoa Butter.
P.S.- Thanks for the kick in the ass. I needed it. And I'll try not to yell so much in the car.
I said try.

IT'S TIME FOR PIE
So yesterday blew. Royally.
I had to call the bank, balance the checkbook, pay our insurance. (I really just wanted to spend the money on shoes, but B informs me that that would be irresponsible. Who knew?)
It sucked. I don't know, I was just in a funk.
Until Stacy came over and brought me this.
HOW COOL IS SHE!?!?!
Of course, I then had to make a pie to put in my kick ass new cake stand. I didn't want it to look all sad, just sitting there empty on it's first day. I ended up making a chocolate puddin' pie. Yum. The crust actually turned out all right, which is crazy, 'cause I'm not exactly known for pies. Anyway. It. Was. Good. So Good.
So big up to Stac for dragging me out of my funk with a little piece of retro happiness. Rock on.
It's strange actually having a friend close by. She called, came over, we watched movies and I made pie. Weird, right? I mean, B is like my bestest bud in the whole world, but sometimes, just looking at his loveable mug makes me want to tear phonebooks in half with my bare hands.
All I'm sayin', is it's nice to have friend.
P.S. The flea market rocked, but I'm glad it's only 3 times a year, 'cause I'm still recovering. Wow.

UM. YEAH, RIGHT...
Brian: God! Ashlee Simpson sucks!
Mel: Give the poor girl a break. I mean look at who she has for a family.
Brian: God! Ashlee Simpson sucks!
----------
(3 hours later as I'm in the cave/ office, and Bri thinks I can't hear what he's watching on television...)
HE'S WATCHING THE ASHLEE SIMPSON SHOW.
Tool.
(Oh, yeah. I'm callin' ya on it.)

I'M NO MARC SUMMERS
B says I have OCD.
I told him that of course he thinks I have OCD, since any one that actually picks up their clothes off of the floor, or GOD FORBID, takes them off in the bedroom in the first place (not the living room/ foyer) naturally would appear to have OCD. I also take my plates/ glasses/ beer bottles to the kitchen. I need professional help.
I have never met anyone who hates wearing clothes so much, that the absolute first thing he must do when entering the house is drop trou. He barely makes it in the door these days.
Yeah, I have a disease for 'ya: *B-D-S.

BUY MY CRAP. AND TRAV"S CRAP.
So I can now finally tell everyone about my newest obsession: CafePress. Namely, Big Sky Starlet at Cafepress.
I have my very own store where you can buy stuff I designed. Cool, right? It is so freakin' addictive. I feel like I must put something new up constantly. At the very least, it's a good outlet to get some stuff out of my head. I'm even thinking of shelling out the clams to have a professional store, so I can sell like 72 different journals and 33 different aprons. Or, whatever. Right now I'm limited to just one of each, which blows, because we are so much more creative than that. As soon as we get the old computer hooked up to the new to computer to I can get all my stuff, I'll be adding some new stuff. So keep checking back!
And check out Trav's stuff too! I did the stuff that's up there right now (1.15.2005), but as I type, he's working on more to add.
SO GO BUY OUR CRAP!
